Introduction: According to displacement of fragments fracture classified into two groups 1-undisplaced fracture, 2-displaced fracture. Any fracture when it is complete , fracture fragments may be displaced .
Causes of displacement: 1- Force of injury
2- Muscle pull
3- Gravity.
Types of displacement: 1-Translation or shift
2- Angulation or tilt
3- Rotation or twist
4- Length descripancy
Translation or shift: Fracture fragments when displaced in side ways, like forward, backward , medial or lateral in relation to each other .Fracture surfaces may lose contact between them. When bone segments lie side by side fracture site may unite even fracture ends are off-ended.
Angulation or tilt: Fracture fragments may angulated in relation to each other. If malalignment not corrected ,which may lead to deformity in the limb.
Rotation or twist: One of fracture fragment may twisted on its long axis,If not corrected, may lead to rotational deformity of the limb.
Leangth descripancy: Alteration in length, may be shortening or lengthening .
